Wendell D. Gugler was born on April 7, 1925 in Abilene, Kan. and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Company E of the 85th Infantry Regiment. Gugler also served at Camp Swift, Tex. before being deployed to Italy where he participated in the battle at Mount Belvedere. From the description of Wendell D.
